Ed Sheeran Faces AI Accusations Over New Album Lyrics

Ed Sheeran Faces AI Accusations Over New Album Lyrics

Ed Sheeran is facing new questions about the authenticity of his songwriting. The singer recently released his album Play, which includes 12 tracks. Soon after, critics and insiders began speculating whether Ed Sheeran used AI to write lyrics on the project.

Industry insiders told Radar Online that some lyrics sound β€œtoo generic” and β€œtoo automated.” One source compared the situation to Sheeran’s marriage, joking there may now be β€œthree of them – Ed, Cherry, and ChatGPT.”

The criticism comes as fans debate the role of artificial intelligence in music. Some reviewers suggested that certain verses on Play lack the personal and poetic touch that has defined Sheeran’s career. A UK-based review even called the record β€œlyrically lamp,” implying it felt flat and uninspired.

A source from Sheeran’s record label explained why the rumors are gaining traction. They said, β€œAudiences don’t mind polish. But they do mind the idea that their favorite songwriter isn’t writing anymore. The suspicion of AI use is toxic in music; it makes everything feel hollow.”

Music producers also weighed in on the wider debate. One veteran producer explained that while AI can produce catchy choruses, it cannot recreate emotions like pain, joy, or the human experience. They argued that this difference is why fans value authenticity and continue to question whether technology is overtaking artistry.

For his part, Sheeran has described Play as being written during the β€œdarkest period” of his life, pointing to deep personal struggles behind the music. He has not directly responded to the AI rumors, leaving space for speculation.

The debate highlights the growing tension between technology and creativity. As AI tools continue to advance, the music industry is grappling with questions of trust, originality, and the future of songwriting.
