In House of the Dragon season 2, Otto Hightower finally acknowledges Alicent’s fourth child, Daeron Targaryen, who is poised to play a crucial role in the upcoming war despite his previous absence.
For those unfamiliar with George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, it might be surprising to learn that Alicent and Viserys have a fourth child. Up until now, House of the Dragon has only featured her three oldest children, Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond.

Daeron was notably absent during season 1’s earlier timeline when the youngest Targaryen children were still young, sparking numerous theories that he had been entirely removed from the show.
Prior to the release of House of the Dragon season 2, showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed that Daeron remains a character in the series, as he is also featured in HBO’s Targaryen family tree breakdown.
It’s still puzzling why his parents and siblings never mentioned him, especially following Viserys’ death at the end of season 1. Nevertheless, after being dismissed as Hand of the King, his grandfather Otto Hightower plans to go to Oldtown to look after Daeron, setting the stage for his much-anticipated introduction.
The exact timing of his departure to Oldtown is uncertain, but Daeron Targaryen has been at House Hightower’s stronghold since before Rhaenyra’s son Joffrey Velaryon was born.
