Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” has become the first movie of 2024 to reach the $1 billion mark at the global box office. The film achieved this milestone in less than three weeks, making it the fastest animated film ever to do so, according to Variety.
Disney, which owns Pixar, announced that “Inside Out 2” is now the highest-grossing movie of the year. Released on June 14, the animated film has earned $469.3 million in North America and $545.5 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $1.015 billion.

This success places “Inside Out 2” among the elite group of 11 animated films that have crossed the billion-dollar mark, eight of which are Disney productions.
The impressive performance of “Inside Out 2” contrasts with the mediocre ticket sales of Pixar’s last two releases, “Elemental” and “Lightyear.” During the COVID-19 pandemic, three prior Pixar films were released directly to streaming platforms.
“Inside Out 2” is the sequel to the 2015 hit that explores the inner workings of a young girl’s mind. In this installment, the lead character Riley is now a teenager dealing with new emotions such as anxiety and envy. The original “Inside Out” opened with about $90 million in its first weekend in the summer of 2015.
