Sector 36: Is Vikrant Massey’s Thriller Based on Real Story?

The trailer for Netflix’s “Sector 36,” featuring Bollywood star Vikrant Massey, has created a buzz online with its intense scenes.

Indian media suggests that “Sector 36” is loosely inspired by the Nithari Killings case, where numerous families reported their young women and children missing. The trailer confirms that the film is inspired by true, shocking events but does not detail which specific events will be depicted.

In 2006, Nithari, a village in Noida, became infamous when reports of missing women and children surfaced. Although the disappearances started in 2005 and continued into December 2006, they were initially dismissed as isolated incidents. Investigations later uncovered a horrifying pattern, revealing that local authorities had ignored reports of missing children.

Residents, with help from a former RWA president, discovered a decomposed hand, prompting an investigation that led to the discovery of body parts buried behind a bungalow. Moninder Singh Pandher and his servant Surinder Koli were arrested. Koli confessed to abducting, assaulting, murdering, and dismembering the victims, some of whom were children and young women, and even admitted to cannibalism.
