Mexico has officially won the Miss Universe 2025 crown, marking a historic and emotional victory in a competition filled with glamour, global representation, and controversy. Fatima Bosch, a 25-year-old humanitarian, emerged as the fan favourite despite facing public humiliation during the pageant.
The grand finale took place in Bangkok, Thailand, where Bosch outshone finalists from around the world. She was crowned by reigning Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark. The top placements were: Mexico as the winner, Thailand’s Praveenar Singh as first runner-up, Venezuela’s Stephany Abasali second runner-up, the Philippines’ Ahtisa Manalo third runner-up, and Côte d’Ivoire’s Olivia Yacé as fourth runner-up.
This year’s Miss Universe 2025 featured a record 120 contestants from across the globe, emphasizing themes of empowerment, representation, and resilience. Bosch’s journey, however, was overshadowed by a controversy involving Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil, who publicly berated her for insufficient promotional content.
The incident sparked a global backlash, with other contestants walking out in solidarity. Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the treatment and praised Bosch for handling it with dignity.
Further drama unfolded as two judges resigned days before the finale. Composer Omar Harfouch claimed the pageant was rigged, alleging pre-selection of the top 30 contestants. Miss Universe officials rejected these claims, describing the judging process as transparent. Former French footballer Claude Makélélé also withdrew for personal reasons.
The finale, hosted by comedian Steve Byrne, featured cultural performances and highlighted contestants’ national costumes. Bosch delivered a memorable message: “Believe in the power of your authenticity. Your dreams matter, your heart matters. Never let anyone make you doubt your worth.” The three-week-long pageant included charity work, rehearsals, and cultural events across Thailand.
Other notable moments included Miss USA’s elaborate bald eagle costume and a scare involving Jamaica’s Gabrielle Henry, who was safely treated after a fall. Miss Universe Pakistan 2025, Roma Riaz, also addressed online trolling during the competition.
