Notices Issued on Plea Seeking FIR Against Dhurandhar Director

A session court has issued notices to the police regarding a plea seeking an FIR against the Dhurandhar Director and others for allegedly defaming Pakistan and portraying violence and terrorism. The plea was filed after the applicant claimed the Indian movie “Dhurandhar” misrepresented Pakistan and sensitive political figures.

PPP activist Muhammad Amir filed the plea under Sections 22A and B of the Criminal Procedure Code, requesting legal action against the Dhurandhar Director and associated producers. Amir stated that after watching the official trailer and clips on social media, he found the movie anti-Pakistan and defamatory.

According to the plea, the film allegedly depicted the PPP as sympathetic toward terrorists and portrayed Lyari, a neighborhood in Karachi, as a “terrorist war zone.” The applicant also claimed that the movie used the PPP flag and images of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto without legal permission.

Amir asserted that the accused, including the Dhurandhar Director, were responsible for creating, producing, and distributing content that incited hatred, promoted enmity between groups, and contained elements of criminal intimidation and defamation. He argued that these acts could constitute multiple offenses under Pakistani law.

A written complaint had already been submitted to the Darakhshan police station SHO requesting FIR registration, but Amir alleged that no action was taken. He urged the court to direct the SHO to register the case and initiate a formal investigation into the matter.

The session court’s notices now call on the police to respond to the plea and provide updates on the registration and investigation of the case. Legal experts say the matter will set a precedent regarding accountability for international films and content that may be considered defamatory in Pakistan.
