Sialkot police have registered a criminal case against popular Pakistani TikToker Mr Patlo and several event organisers following a deadly stampede at his mehndi ceremony that left one person dead and several others injured.
The case was registered at Motra Police Station after the incident at Faraz Cricket Ground on Daska Road, where thousands of people had gathered for the wedding celebration and a planned prize distribution event.
According to local media reports, police nominated nine individuals in the First Information Report (FIR), including Muhammad Ansar Jatt, popularly known as Mr Patlo, his brother Kashif and the owner of the ground.
The case also includes 40 to 45 unidentified security personnel who were reportedly deployed to manage the gathering.
Sialkot police said six suspects had been arrested following the incident, while efforts to trace and arrest other individuals named in the case were underway.
The FIR accuses the event organisers of failing to maintain adequate security and crowd management arrangements. Police also alleged that the organisers violated safety standard operating procedures and conditions attached to the event’s permission.
However, the allegations have not yet been established in court, and the investigation will determine the responsibility of those nominated.
The stampede occurred when a large crowd gathered outside Faraz Cricket Ground to attend Mr Patlo’s mehndi ceremony and participate in a prize draw.
The situation reportedly became uncontrollable after the venue’s entrance gates opened and attendees rushed towards the entrance simultaneously.
The sudden movement caused people to push against one another, resulting in several attendees falling and getting injured.
The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Muhammad Aqeel, who reportedly died while being transported to hospital due to his critical condition.
Rescue 1122 teams shifted injured individuals to Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital in Sialkot for medical assistance.
Initial rescue information identified at least 14 affected individuals, while subsequent local media reports also mentioned 18 injured people. Some residents claimed that the actual number could be higher because several victims were taken to private hospitals and nearby clinics.
Four ambulances and one motorcycle ambulance reportedly participated in the emergency response.
The large gathering was reportedly attracted by an extensive prize distribution programme announced for the wedding celebrations.
The planned giveaways included 50 motorcycles, one car and cash prizes of Rs50,000 each. The TikToker had also reportedly announced financial assistance for the dowries of 20 deserving orphan girls.
Thousands of followers were said to have travelled from different parts of Punjab to attend the celebration and participate in the prize draw.
The incident also raised questions about the arrangements made before the gathering. Rescue 1122 District Emergency Officer Engineer Naveed Iqbal said the rescue service had not received advance information about the expected crowd size.
Reports also indicated that Mr Patlo had announced the cancellation of his mehndi ceremony in a TikTok video, citing illness and back pain. However, large numbers of people had already reached the venue.
Following the tragedy, Sialkot District Police Officer Dost Muhammad visited the location with police personnel and Elite Force members.
Police subsequently took control of the situation and initiated legal proceedings against the nominated individuals.
The incident has brought renewed attention to crowd management and public safety at large events organised by social media personalities.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish how the crowd became uncontrollable, whether the event’s permission conditions were followed and whether adequate emergency arrangements were made.
