In recent weeks, Algerian Olympic Boxer Imane Khelif has faced unwarranted controversy and malicious abuse regarding her gender ahead of her fight against Yang Liu of China for the women’s welterweight Gold Medal on August 10th.
Despite the negativity directed at her, Khelif has received substantial support from various organizations, including the Algerian Olympic Committee, the Palestinian Olympic Association, and the International Olympic Committee. Many celebrities and athletes, such as American football star Megan Rapinoe and Irish Olympic champion Kellie Harrington, have also publicly backed her.

On August 7th, WWE Star Sami Zayn, of Syrian descent, expressed strong support for Khelif on social media. He criticized the bigoted comments she received and wished her success in the gold medal match.
