A Karachi district court has rejected Iqrarul Hassan’s bail plea for the second time in a social media content case.
KARACHI: A district court in Karachi rejected the bail application of Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrarul Hassan on Thursday.
The case involves allegations of sharing anti-state content on social media. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is investigating the matter under Pakistan’s cybercrime laws.
The latest decision marks the second rejection of Iqrarul Hassan’s bail application this month.
Earlier, on October 22, 2026, a Judicial Magistrate-East had also dismissed his request for bail.
NCCIA Registers Case Under PECA
The NCCIA registered Case No. 101/2026 against Hassan under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
According to the agency, the case concerns allegations that Hassan shared content considered harmful to the state through social media platforms.
The investigation is being conducted under the country’s cybercrime legislation.
However, the allegations remain subject to legal proceedings, and no conviction has been reported.
Defence Plans to Approach Sindh High Court
Following the court’s decision, Hassan’s lawyer spoke to journalists outside the courtroom.
The lawyer confirmed that the defence intends to challenge the latest order before the Sindh High Court.
According to the lawyer, the legal team will first obtain the detailed judgment from the district court.
After reviewing the decision, the defence plans to seek suspension of the order through the higher court.
The legal team has not announced a specific date for filing the challenge.
Court Previously Rejected Physical Remand Request
The case also came before a judicial magistrate on October 19, 2026.
During that hearing, the NCCIA requested an extension of Hassan’s physical remand for further investigation.
However, the Judicial Magistrate-East rejected the agency’s request and ordered Hassan to be sent to jail on judicial remand.
The court also directed the NCCIA to submit the challan within 14 days.
A challan is a formal investigation report submitted to the court by the investigating agency.
The decision meant that Hassan would remain in judicial custody rather than being held for further physical remand.

Following his arrest, he was transferred to Karachi in connection with the NCCIA investigation.
