Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has strongly criticized the Indian film Dhurandhar, calling it a conspiracy against the Pakistan Peopleโs Party. The film was reportedly shot around Lyari, which Wahab said was deliberately targeted.
In his statement, Wahab claimed that Indian cinema often promotes conspiracies. He said Lyari does not belong to one area alone but represents Sindh and Pakistan as a whole. He accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using films after failing on the diplomatic front.
The mayor said Dhurandhar is part of a broader political agenda. He alleged that Modi is intentionally targeting the PPP through such projects. Wahab repeated remarks previously made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, referring to Modi as the โButcher of Gujarat.โ
Speaking on politics, Wahab said political ups and downs are normal. However, he added that long-term political stability leads to economic stability. He stressed the need for accountability in the use of public funds.
Wahab revealed that Rs1.3 million per month is allocated to each union council chairman. He said these funds must be used responsibly and transparently.
The Karachi mayor also addressed civic issues. He urged citizens to report theft of manhole covers by calling helpline 1334. He said public cooperation is essential to improve city infrastructure and safety.
Commenting on provincial unity, Wahab rejected calls for Sindhudesh or any division of provinces. He said the PPP believes in the supremacy of the Constitution. He added that police acted against incidents during Sindhi Culture Day.
Wahab said responsibility for preventing hate or division during Mohajir Culture Day lies with political leaders, including Farooq Sattar. He emphasized that cultural events should promote harmony, not conflict.
The controversy around Dhurandhar has sparked political debate in Pakistan. Wahab said such films cannot weaken the resolve of the PPP or the people of Sindh. He added that political issues should be resolved through dialogue, not cinema narratives.
