Veteran Bollywood actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, best known for his iconic roles in films like Purab Aur Paschim and Kranti, has passed away at 87 in Mumbai.
He died at 3:30 am on Friday due to heart complications, with liver cirrhosis contributing to his condition, according to the medical certificate from Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Kumar, calling him a “legendary actor” and national icon, celebrated for his patriotic fervor, which resonated in many of his films. Modi further noted that Kumar’s work, which instilled national pride, will continue to inspire future generations.
Born in 1937 in Abbottabad, Kumar began his Bollywood journey in 1957 and rose to fame with films like Gumnaam (1965) and Shaheed (1965). He also directed the notable film Shor (1972) and won the Filmfare Award for Best Director in 1975 for Roti Kapada Aur Makaan.
Kumar was honored with numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri in 1992, the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015. His passing has deeply impacted the Indian film industry, with tributes pouring in from across the nation.
Union Minister Rajnath Singh praised him as a “versatile actor” whose films, filled with patriotism, enriched Indian culture. Kumar’s legacy in Indian cinema remains secure, inspiring generations with his patriotic roles and immense contribution.
