Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane recently looked back at one of the most significant roles of her early career.
On Wednesday, she shared a heartfelt post on Instagram about the 2013 television drama Main Gunehgar Nahi, aired on ARY Digital. The drama marked an important milestone in Mawra Hocane’s acting journey.
Hocane played Ammara, a young woman whose life changes tragically after she becomes a victim of rape. She wrote that she was just 20 years old at the time and felt the emotional weight of the character deeply.
“Thirteen years ago in the first year of my career I shot a very special project,” she said. “It was about the life of a rape survivor and how she rebuilds her life after such a painful incident.”
The actress admitted that portraying Ammara affected her personally. “I wouldn’t be able to sleep thinking about the character,” she shared, highlighting the intense emotional toll of the role.
Since then, Mawra Hocane has appeared in nearly 25 projects, often focusing on stories that address women’s issues and their roles in society. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent such important narratives.
Main Gunehgar Nahi follows Ammara as she struggles with societal stigma and victim-blaming after being assaulted by three privileged men. The drama also starred Sami Khan, Shamoon Abbasi, and Faizan Khawaja in pivotal roles.
