Meta Scandal – Flirty AI Chatbots of Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez & Dua Lipa Spark Global Outrage

Meta is facing heavy criticism after a Reuters investigation revealed that its platforms hosted AI chatbots impersonating global celebrities without consent. The report claims these bots mimicked stars such as Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, and Selena Gomez.

According to the investigation, the bots not only flirted with users but also generated sexually suggestive images. Some even impersonated child celebrities, raising serious concerns about safety and legality.

While many of these avatars were user-generated, Reuters found that at least three—including two Taylor Swift “parody” bots—were created by a Meta employee. In weeks of testing, reporters observed the bots claiming to be real celebrities, engaging in flirtatious conversations, and producing inappropriate AI-generated photos.

A Meta spokesperson, Andy Stone, admitted that the company’s AI tools had violated its own guidelines by creating intimate images.

He emphasized that while public figures can be portrayed, nude or sexual content is strictly prohibited. Following the findings, the company removed a dozen celebrity chatbots shortly before the report was released.

Legal experts suggest Meta could face lawsuits over violating publicity rights, particularly in states like California, where using someone’s likeness without permission for commercial purposes is restricted. Representatives of several affected celebrities, including Anne Hathaway, have confirmed awareness of the issue.

The revelations come at a time when lawmakers are closely monitoring AI misuse. Earlier this year, U.S. senators criticized Meta for AI policies that once allowed “romantic” conversations between bots and children. This led to a Senate inquiry and warnings from attorneys general across the U.S.

Industry experts argue that the controversy highlights the broader dangers of AI impersonation. Duncan Crabtree-Ireland of SAG-AFTRA warned that realistic celebrity chatbots could encourage stalking and other security risks.

Meta insists it is tightening enforcement and reviewing policies. However, analysts say this case underscores the urgent need for stronger AI regulations to protect both celebrities and everyday users.
