Metro In Dino Box Office Day 1: Anurag Basu’s Film Opens Slow, Earns ₹3.35 Crore

Anurag Basu’s new film Metro In Dino hit theatres on Friday, July 4. Featuring a star-studded cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher, the film is a spiritual sequel to Life In A Metro (2007). Despite high expectations, Metro In Dino started with a modest performance on day one.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Metro In Dino collected ₹3.35 crore on its opening day. While this figure may increase slightly as final numbers come in, the film’s start is considered below average for a multi-starrer of this scale.

The overall occupancy on day one was recorded at 17.99%. Morning shows had the lowest turnout at 8.64%, while night shows showed improvement with 31.09%. The film saw the most screenings and audience turnout in metro cities like Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru.

Interestingly, Metro In Dino performed better than its prequel Life In A Metro, which had opened with ₹87 lakh in 2007. However, the competition this time is fierce. The film is sharing screen space with several major releases including Kajol’s Maa, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, Brad Pitt’s F1, and Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World: Rebirth.

Before its release, Metro In Dino was expected to earn only ₹50–60 lakh through advance bookings. Despite mixed reviews from both critics and viewers, the film managed to cross expectations on day one.

According to Pinkvilla, the film’s budget is estimated at ₹100 crore—₹85 crore for production and ₹15 crore for promotions. Originally planned at ₹65 crore, the project went over budget by ₹20 crore.

The coming days will be crucial. The weekend box office results will determine whether Metro In Dino can maintain momentum and recover its costs. Backed by T-Series Films and Anurag Basu Productions, the film still has a long road ahead.
