Nabeel Gabol Hints at Netflix’s Secret Lyari Series – What’s Coming

Veteran politician Nabeel Gabol has sparked a social media buzz by claiming that Netflix is planning a major Lyari Series. The series is reportedly set to explore the rich history and complex socio-political dynamics of Lyari, one of Karachi’s oldest and most storied neighborhoods.

Gabol, a senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, said a Netflix production team has approached him regarding a proposed three-season Lyari Series. The project, according to Gabol, aims to showcase the “real Lyari” and counter negative portrayals of the area in foreign media. He claimed the team plans to visit Pakistan in March to further develop the series.

The politician also made headlines by suggesting that Wagner Moura, the Brazilian actor famous for his role as Pablo Escobar in Netflix’s Narcos, could play a character inspired by Gabol’s own political journey in Lyari. Producers allegedly cited physical resemblance as a reason for considering Moura for the role.

Gabol’s comments come amid controversy over the Indian film Dhurandhar, which he said inaccurately portrayed a character based on him. He emphasized that Lyari is more than crime stories, highlighting its cultural and sporting heritage. He argued the area deserves a nuanced representation, which the proposed Lyari Series might provide.

Despite the viral response and growing anticipation online, Netflix has not officially confirmed the project. The streaming giant has also not verified Wagner Moura’s potential involvement or the proposed March visit. Media analysts note that while Lyari’s history offers rich storytelling potential, international casting claims remain speculative.
