Pakistani actor Nadia Jamil has called on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take stronger steps against animal cruelty. In a public appeal, Nadia Jamil stressed that protecting animals is closely linked to building a safer society for children.
The appeal was shared through a letter co-written by Uzma Hassan. The document highlighted the growing concern about violence towards animals in Pakistan. It also pointed out that such behavior can influence human attitudes and lead to broader social harm.
In her message, Nadia Jamil urged people to support the cause by signing and sharing the petition. She asked citizens to raise awareness and tag the chief minister on social media. According to Nadia Jamil, cruelty should not be ignored, as it can shape how future generations think and behave.
The letter explained that violence in society often starts with small acts. When cruelty becomes common, children may see it as normal behavior. Nadia Jamil emphasized that the way people treat animals reflects their moral values.
The document also referred to Pakistanโs commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. This agreement requires the country to protect children from psychological harm. Exposure to violence, including animal abuse, can negatively affect their mental development.
It further noted that the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has highlighted the link between environmental issues and child safety. The committee stressed that children should be protected from all forms of harm, including witnessing cruelty.
Nadia Jamil also raised concerns about the treatment of wild and exotic animals in Pakistan. She said many animals face stress and suffering due to poor conditions. The letter added that individuals who harm animals may also show signs of deeper psychological issues.
Other actors have also spoken on this issue. Ushna Shah previously urged the government to focus more on animal welfare. Zhalay Sarhadi also highlighted concerns after reports of animals being harmed during a demolition near Data Darbar.
