Observing the First Death Anniversary of the Zia Mohyeddin Today

Today marks the first death anniversary of the distinguished actor, broadcaster, and producer, Zia Mohyeddin, who left an indelible mark on the world of performing arts. Born on June 20, 1931, in Faisalabad, Zia Mohyeddin’s legacy resonates through his extensive contributions.

Zia Mohyeddin gained widespread recognition for his iconic Pakistan Television talk show, ‘The Zia Mohyeddin Show,’ which debuted in 1969. However, his journey in the entertainment industry began at a young age when he seized an opportunity to act in the renowned film ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ in 1962, delivering a memorable performance.

Renowned  for originating the role of Dr. Aziz in the stage play adaptation of ‘A Passage to India,’ Zia Mohyeddin received his education at London’s Royal Aca;demy of Dramatic Art in the early 50s.

In 2005, he made a lasting impact by establishing the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi, where he served as its head from inception. Zia Mohyeddin also showcased his literary prowess through books such as ‘A Carrot is a Carrot,’ ‘Theatrics and The God of My Idolatry Memories,’ and ‘Reflections.’

With an illustrious career spanning over 67 years, Zia Mohyeddin earned prestigious accolades, including the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and a Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional services to the field of performing arts.

Zia Mohyeddin’s legacy continues to inspire and celebrate his profound impact on the cultural landscape. He peacefully departed on February 13, 2023, in Karachi, leaving behind a rich tapestry of artistic contributions.
