The elderly groom, identified as Tarman, married 24-year-old Shela Arika in a grand ceremony on October 1. Guests at the event were also surprised when each received 100,000 rupiah in cash instead of traditional souvenirs.
The story gained traction online after the wedding photography company, which covered the ceremony, claimed that the newlyweds left without paying for their services. The company also alleged they were unable to contact the couple afterward.
Rumors soon spread across social media suggesting that Tarman had fled the venue on a motorcycle and that the cheque given to his bride was fake.
