Over 1,000 Transgenders Trained in Punjab Program

Over 1,000 transgenders trained under Punjab Skills’ Programme have successfully completed courses designed to improve employment opportunities. The initiative, launched by the Punjab government, aims to provide technical and vocational skills to marginalized groups, ensuring they can participate more actively in the economy.

According to officials, the programme focused on diverse fields such as tailoring, beauty services, computer literacy, and hospitality management. By completing these courses, participants are expected to gain sustainable income sources and reduce dependence on low-paying or informal jobs.

The Punjab Skills Development Authority confirmed that over 1,000 transgenders trained under Punjab Skills’ Programme have already received certificates. Many of them are now exploring opportunities in the private sector, while some plan to start their own small businesses.

Officials highlighted that this is the first time such a large number of transgender individuals have been included in a provincial skills programme. The move reflects the government’s broader policy of inclusion and social empowerment.

Community leaders welcomed the initiative, saying it could help break stereotypes and open doors for better social acceptance. They stressed the need for more projects like this to address the challenges faced by transgender people in education, healthcare, and employment.

The programme also provided counseling sessions, helping participants build confidence and prepare for professional environments. Organizers believe these efforts will not only benefit individuals but also strengthen Pakistan’s labor market by adding skilled workers from underrepresented groups.

Experts suggest that long-term success will depend on follow-up opportunities, including job placements, financial assistance, and partnerships with private companies. They argue that government policies must focus on sustainable inclusion rather than short-term projects.

With over 1,000 transgenders trained under Punjab Skills’ Programme, the initiative is being seen as a landmark step toward equality, empowerment, and economic growth in the province.
