Bollywood actor Salman Khan has secured major legal relief in his ongoing defamation case. The dispute involves filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, who directed the hit film Dabangg. A Mumbai civil court has ruled in favour of the actor.
The court issued a temporary injunction against Abhinav Kashyap. The order bars him from making or sharing any defamatory statements against Salman Khan or his family. The decision followed a lawsuit filed by the actor against Abhinav, Khushboo Hazare, and several social media platforms.
According to court records, Salman Khan has sought a permanent injunction in the case. He has also demanded an unconditional public apology. In addition, the actor is seeking damages worth ₹9 crore. The suit focuses on around 26 podcasts and video interviews released between September and December 2025.
In these interviews, Abhinav Kashyap allegedly made serious allegations against Salman and his family. The court reviewed the material presented during the hearing. It stated that the remarks appeared defamatory and damaging in nature.
The court described the statements as abusive and insulting. It ruled that such comments are not protected under freedom of speech. The judge observed that freedom of expression does not allow attacks on personal dignity or family members.
The ruling is significant due to Abhinav Kashyap’s past association with Dabangg. The film played a major role in Salman Khan’s career. Despite this history, the court stressed that personal grievances cannot justify defamatory remarks.
As part of the temporary relief, the court restrained Abhinav from publishing any new content against the actor. He was also directed to remove all existing defamatory material from digital platforms. Social media companies named in the case were instructed to comply.
Salman Khan’s legal team welcomed the decision. They said the order protects the actor’s reputation and personal life. The case will continue as the court considers the request for permanent relief.
The Dabangg actor has not made a public statement yet. Abhinav Kashyap has also remained silent after the order. The next hearing is expected to decide further legal action.
