Sania Mirza Joins Viral Dance Trend, Says 'Cringe is the New Cool'

Former tennis star Sania Mirza has jumped on a popular Instagram trend, delighting her followers with a fun new video.

On Wednesday, the sports icon shared a reel recreating the famous dance steps from Aishwarya Rai’s hit song Kahin Aag Lage Lag Jaye from the 1999 Bollywood film Taal. She performed the routine alongside friends, keeping a straight face as the trend requires.

The post was captioned, “Because cringe is the new cool.” Within hours, it went viral, collecting over 1.6 million views.

Fans and celebrities were quick to respond. Singer Ananya Birla, a close friend of Sania Mirza, commented, “You look like you’re having sooooooooo much fun.” Another fan wrote, “Cringe is looking cool on you.”

Known for her cheerful personality, the former tennis champion often shares lighthearted and entertaining content on social media.

During her career, Sania Mirza became one of India’s most celebrated athletes. She won six Grand Slam titles — three in women’s doubles and three in mixed doubles. The Women’s Tennis Association ranked her as India’s top singles player from 2003 until she retired from singles in 2013.

Off the court, her personal life has also been in the spotlight. She was married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik for 13 years. The couple, who have a son named Izhaan, announced their separation earlier this year.

Even after retiring from professional tennis, Sania continues to engage with her fans through social media, proving her influence extends far beyond the sport. Her latest reel is yet another example of her ability to connect with audiences in a fun and relatable way.
