‘Sindoor Ban Gaya Tandoor’: Pakistanis Mock Indian Airstrikes with Wave of Memes

Tensions between nuclear-armed rivals Pakistan and India escalated once more following Indian midnight airstrikes, which New Delhi claimed were aimed at supposed militant camps along the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistan, however, refuted these claims, asserting that no such camps existed and that the strikes instead led to civilian casualties, including women and children.

In India, hashtags like #DestroyPakistan and #OperationSindoor trended across social media as local media celebrated the operation. But in Pakistan, online users responded with sarcasm and mockery.

The term “Sindoor Ban Gaya Tandoor”—a satirical jab at India’s Operation Sindoor—quickly went viral, with many calling the mission a failure. Pakistani military sources claimed five Indian fighter jets were shot down, though India has not confirmed this.

Pakistani social media was flooded with memes, many ridiculing Indian media and supporters of Prime Minister Modi for what they saw as exaggerated war propaganda. Iconic references such as the “tea was fantastic” meme from the 2019 Abhinandan episode resurfaced, with new additions targeting the recent events and perceived Indian bravado.

One widely shared tweet joked, “Indian media declares victory from their studios while their planes return as fireworks.” Outlets like Daily Pakistan curated the top trending memes, showcasing how Pakistanis used humor to cope with the tensions.

As diplomatic statements continued to fly between the two countries, global leaders called for calm and immediate dialogue to avoid a deeper crisis.
