Spotify is reportedly preparing a new artificial intelligence feature for music lovers. The upcoming tool will allow users to create AI-generated covers and remixes of popular songs. However, subscribers may need to pay an additional $4 to $5 monthly.

According to a Financial Times report, Spotify is targeting the first quarter of 2027 for the launch. The company could introduce the feature around the Grammy Awards in February. However, the launch schedule and pricing have not been officially confirmed.

The new tool will allow Spotify Premium subscribers to modify existing songs using artificial intelligence. Users could transform a folk song into a dance track. They may also create versions that sound like different artists are performing them.

Unlike traditional music creation tools, the feature will focus on existing recordings. Participating artists and record labels must provide permission for their music. This approach aims to give users creative control while respecting music rights.

Spotify is also reportedly developing playlist support for AI-generated remixes. Users may be able to add their modified tracks to personal playlists. Streams of these versions could also contribute towards the original songs’ chart performance.

The company reportedly plans to share royalties with original artists and songwriters. This would allow creators to earn from fan-generated versions of their recordings.

Spotify AI Remix Feature Could Cost Extra

The proposed AI tool could cost between $4 and $5 per month. This amount would be charged separately from the regular Premium subscription.

Spotify Premium Individual currently costs $12.99 monthly in the United States. With the additional feature, subscribers could pay approximately $16.99 to $17.99. However, these prices remain estimates based on reported plans.

Spotify previously considered introducing a more expensive Music Pro subscription. The proposed package included advanced features, such as AI-powered remixing tools. However, the company did not launch that plan as initially expected.

Instead, lossless audio became available within Premium without an additional subscription charge.

Spotify Secures Agreements With Music Companies

Spotify has already reached several licensing agreements to support its AI plans. In May 2026, the company announced an agreement with Universal Music Group.

The deal allows users to create AI covers and remixes involving participating artists. Spotify has also reached agreements with Merlin, Kobalt, and Believe. These partnerships could expand the music catalogue available for the feature.

However, negotiations with Sony Music and Warner Music are reportedly continuing. Individual artists will also retain the option to approve or reject participation.

The report suggests Spotify has faced challenges securing participation from some major contemporary artists. Older and established performers have reportedly shown greater willingness to participate. Consequently, the initial selection of supported songs could remain limited.

Expected Spotify AI Feature Launch

Spotify is reportedly aiming to introduce the AI remix service during early 2027. February’s Grammy Awards could provide an opportunity for its announcement. However, the company has not confirmed this possibility.

Spotify has also declined to comment on the reported pricing and launch schedule. Users are awaiting further details about supported songs and subscription costs.

If launched, the feature could introduce a new way to experience familiar music. It would also create additional earning opportunities for participating artists and songwriters. For now, subscribers must wait for an official announcement.
