Taylor Momsen has revealed new details about her decision to leave Gossip Girl, explaining that her time on the show left her feeling emotionally trapped.
In a candid conversation on the Call Her Daddy podcast, aired on November 5, c shared how difficult it was to exit her contract with The CW despite her growing unhappiness. βIt started with βI donβt want to do this anymore,β but you are in a lock-and-key contract with CW Warner Brothers,β she said. βIt was a long battle of me begging to get out. I felt like it was killing me.β
The actress, who portrayed Jenny Humphrey on the hit teen drama, said her passion for music had become her main focus. At the time, she had already formed her band, The Pretty Reckless, and wanted to devote herself entirely to it. However, Taylor Momsen recalled facing harsh criticism for wanting to step away from a successful television career. βYouβre called ungrateful. People ask, βHow dare you turn your back on success?ββ she shared.
Momsen credited Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage for helping her find a way out. βThey didnβt have to do that for me, but they did,β she said. βThey wrote me out of the show so I could go on tour and pursue music.β
The former child star also admitted that she didnβt formally say goodbye to her castmates, including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, and Penn Badgley. βI kind of just Irish dipped,β Taylor Momsen joked. βI just wasnβt in the script the next week. Everyone knew I was making music.β
Since leaving acting behind, Taylor Momsen has built a successful music career as the lead vocalist of The Pretty Reckless, earning global recognition for her powerful performances and rock-driven sound.
