Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that The Batman 2 will begin filming in spring 2026. The update ends months of uncertainty for fans after several delays pushed the sequel’s release from 2025 to 2027.
The news came directly from CEO David Zaslav in a shareholder letter. He shared updates on multiple DC projects, including films and series under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Filming Timeline for The Batman 2
The sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 hit is now set to start production between March and May 2026. This schedule keeps its 2027 theatrical release window on track.
The main cast is returning, with Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Reeves will once again direct, continuing his gritty, detective-driven vision for Gotham.
Part of a Larger DC Roadmap
The Batman sequel is one piece of Warner Bros. Discovery’s broader DC strategy. Other upcoming titles include Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Clayface, both slated for 2026, along with a new Wonder Woman film.
Zaslav described DC as one of the company’s most valuable assets, with plans to grow its presence across movies, television, games, merchandise, and live events.
Expanding the Batman Universe
While fans wait for The Batman 2, the franchise continues to expand. Colin Farrell’s The Penguin series is in development for Max and will connect directly to the sequel’s storyline. Reeves has also hinted at a “Batverse” with more character-driven stories operating outside the main DCU.
With filming confirmed for 2026, the path is clear for post-production and marketing ahead of the 2027 release. Fans can now look forward to more announcements on casting and plot details in the coming years.
