Tom Cruise is preparing to say goodbye to one of his most iconic roles, but he’s made it clear that he’s nowhere near finished with acting. The Hollywood star confirmed that Mission: Impossible โ Final Reckoning, set to hit theaters globally on May 23, will mark his final outing as IMF agent Ethan Hunt.
At the filmโs red carpet premiere in New York City, Cruise told The Hollywood Reporter that the title speaks for itself. โItโs the final! Itโs not called โfinalโ for nothing,โ he said, affirming the end of a franchise heโs led for nearly three decades.

Despite this major transition, the 61-year-old actor expressed nothing but enthusiasm for the future. โI actually said Iโm going to make movies into my 80s; actually, Iโm going to make them into my 100s,โ he declared. Cruise said heโs far from done with action, drama, or comedy and remains deeply passionate about filmmaking.
Drawing inspiration from Harrison Fordโs longevity in action cinema, Cruise is also looking to break new ground. Speaking at the British Film Institute in London, he revealed his desire to explore the musical genre โ one area heโs yet to conquer in his long career.
Final Reckoning features a stacked cast including Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff, and Angela Bassett. While it may be the end of the Mission: Impossible chapter, Cruiseโs next act is only just beginning.
