Waseem Abbas Responds to Firdous Jamal's Controversial Remarks

In response to Firdous Jamal’s recent comments about Humayun Saeed and Mahira Khan, veteran television actor Waseem Abbas has voiced his support for the two stars, praising their versatility and large fan base.

“Age is irrelevant as long as you are delivering outstanding performances that resonate with the audience,” Abbas remarked.

He highlighted Mahira Khan as a leading figure in the entertainment industry, lauding her exceptional acting skills. “Mahira is a showbiz icon with remarkable talent. I completely disagree with Firdous Jamal’s remarks about her,” Abbas stated.

During a podcast appearance, Abbas elaborated, “There’s really not much to say on this matter. I believe we shouldn’t judge others based on their age. It’s all about how the public perceives them. Age shouldn’t matter; Mahira still looks stunning and was radiant in her latest role in ‘Maula Jatt.’ We need to acknowledge that. As senior actors, we should exercise caution when expressing opinions about our fellow actors.”

He further added, “You can criticise an actor’s performance, but you can’t criticise them for their age. For me, it is below the belt.”

Turning to Humayun Saeed, Abbas acknowledged him as a highly successful commercial actor who knows how to captivate audiences. “Humayun Saeed has a massive fan following and is a huge star. Firdous Jamal questioned whether he’s the Marlon Brando of Pakistan, and in my view, he is,” Abbas said. “This kind of criticism is unnecessary and unwarranted. We have condemned such statements before as well.”

Abbas also pointed out that Bollywood icons Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan are in their mid-50s and continue to thrive because of their popularity.

As a seasoned actor with nearly four decades of experience in the industry, Waseem Abbas has appeared in numerous acclaimed Pakistani dramas, including Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Mere Humsafar, Ashiyana, Din, Family Front, Landa Bazar, Prem Gali, and many others.
