Pakistani actress Yashma Gill has shared details about the early struggles in her acting career. She revealed that her father refused to speak to her for nearly a year after she chose to enter the entertainment industry.
Gill spoke about the experience during the morning show Shan-e-Sahoor on ARY Digital. She explained that she was not originally part of showbiz and had a different career path in mind.
According to Gill, her parents sent her abroad for higher education. She studied psychology in Sydney, Australia. After completing her degree, she returned to Karachi and started working as a psychologist at a hospital.
However, she said the job offered a very small salary. One moment changed her thinking about her career. She returned home after a late shift and saw her elderly father leaving early for work.
Watching him work so hard deeply affected her. She realized she wanted to help support her family financially. That realization pushed her toward acting, even though she knew her father might oppose the decision.
Gill shared that she discussed her plan with her mother first. She said she believed her intention was to support her father. Despite this, her father strongly disagreed and refused to accept her decision.
Because of his disappointment, he refused to talk to her for almost a year. Gill explained that her father was worried about the social stigma linked with the entertainment industry.
The situation slowly changed during the holy month of Ramadan. Gill recalled greeting her father when he entered the room one day. She reminded him that returning greetings is a religious duty in Islam. That moment helped break the silence between them.
Their relationship improved further later. Gill eventually took her father for Umrah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. During the trip, many fans recognized her and expressed admiration.
She said her father witnessed the respect she received from people. This helped him understand her work and accept her career. Gill added that the experience strengthened their relationship and brought them closer as a family.
