The album’s title, Konnakol, refers to a South Indian vocal percussion technique. Zayn Malik incorporates this style throughout the 15-track record, merging traditional rhythms with modern music. Listeners can expect a mix of qawwali, Sufi music, and Indian-Pakistani melodies.
Unlike his previous albums, Malik draws intentionally from his cultural heritage. The album’s cover art, featuring Malik merged with a snow leopard, symbolizes his connection to his roots and identity.
