Mohammad Shami Voices Concerns Over Criticism from Pakistan on Indian Team

Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami addressed criticism from Pakistan regarding his team’s performance in the recent 2023 World Cup. Shami, discussing his outstanding performance with the ball, mentioned in a local interview that some Pakistani players seemed envious due to their belief that they are the best.

Shami emphasized that the best performers are those who deliver on time, and controversies arise when unfounded claims are made about obtaining the ball from a different company or in a different color, suggesting ICC favoritism. He urged addressing these issues directly.

Referring to Wasim Akram’s explanations on a local show about the cricket ball selection process, Shami highlighted that despite clarifications, controversies persist. He noted that understanding these aspects can be challenging for those who haven’t played at the international level, and controversies involving former players may lead to mockery.

During the 2023 World Cup, Shami played in seven matches, securing an impressive 24 wickets with an average of 10.71. He achieved three five-wicket hauls, including seven wickets in the semi-final against New Zealand, the highest by any bowler in a single World Cup. Despite his outstanding performance, India fell short of winning the World Cup, suffering a defeat to Australia in the final. Shami emerged as the top wicket-taker and received the Golden Ball award in the final.
