Mohsin Naqvi’s Potential Shift: PCB to Shehbaz’s Cabinet

CCP

Mohsin Naqvi, the current head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is rumored to be stepping down from his position, as indicated by broadcast journalist Muneeb Farooq. Speculation suggests that Naqvi may join the federal cabinet as the Interior Minister, a prediction aligned with the unveiling of names for the new national coalition.

For Naqvi to transition into the federal cabinet, he would likely need to secure a position as a Senator in the Upper House. Elections for the Upper House are scheduled for later in March, with several lawmakers vacating their seats due to the expiration of their six-year terms. Alternatively, Naqvi could potentially be appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Interior.

However, Naqvi’s tenure at the PCB has already faced legal challenges. His appointment to the PCB’s Board of Governors by the Caretaker Prime Minister has been contested in the Islamabad High Court. The petitioner argues that a Caretaker Prime Minister lacks the authority to appoint a specific individual as the head of the PCB, contending that such decisions fall under the jurisdiction of the elected Prime Minister.
