Electricity Prices to Drop Further in Pakistan as NEPRA Reviews Tariff Adjustments

Electricity Prices in Pakistan Set to Drop Further

ISLAMABAD – Electricity consumers in Pakistan may see further relief in their monthly bills as tariff reductions are likely in the coming months. The expected decrease comes as part of ongoing quarterly and fuel price adjustments approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

The proposed cuts will reflect in bills issued during August, September, and October 2025. Power distribution companies have already submitted a request for the fourth quarterly adjustment. NEPRA held a hearing on August 4, 2025, to review the proposal.

The adjustment includes a negative tariff of Rs1.89 per unit. This drop results mainly from updated agreements between the government and power generation companies. In addition, this quarterly adjustment is likely to reduce August bills by Rs0.34 per unit.

Fuel cost adjustments are also expected to lower consumer bills. A request submitted to NEPRA on July 16 for June’s fuel charges suggests a further drop of Rs0.78 per unit in August bills.

Earlier, in July 2025, consumers had already received a fuel price adjustment of Rs0.50 per unit. A further Rs0.28 per unit cut is also expected in the upcoming billing cycle.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a separate petition requesting a Rs1.75 per unit reduction in electricity tariffs. If approved, this cut will apply across all government-owned distribution companies (DISCOs), including K-Electric.

Consumers in Pakistan could benefit from a total relief of up to Rs2.10 per unit in the coming months, depending on future approvals for September, October, and November 2025.

In a related update, K-Electric clarified that it cannot revise electricity rates independently. The company stated that all tariff structures are decided by the government under the Ministry of Energy’s tariff policy.

These changes are part of broader efforts to stabilize electricity prices Pakistan is facing, offering some financial relief to consumers amid rising living costs.
