Mass Displacement in Gaza as Israeli Attacks Intensify

Mass Displacement in Gaza as Israeli Attacks Intensify

The mass displacement of Palestinians from northeastern Gaza City began Friday evening as Israeli attacks intensify across the enclave. Heavy bombardments targeted neighborhoods from both the north and south, forcing thousands to flee.

A Palestinian security source told Anadolu that conditions in eastern Gaza City are worsening β€œat a rapidly accelerating pace.” The source explained that the Israeli army has expanded demolitions in southern and northeastern areas, using explosive-laden robots, artillery shelling, and airstrikes.

Local reports confirmed β€œmass displacement” from the northeastern districts toward western Gaza City and farther south. Additional shelling was also reported in the al-Sabra neighborhood in the city’s south.

Israel declared parts of Gaza City a β€œdangerous combat zone” on Friday. It launched one of its most intense assaults since the start of the war, striking targets by air, land, and sea. Nearly one million Palestinians remain trapped inside Gaza under worsening conditions.

The military campaign is part of Israel’s broader plan, approved earlier this month, to gradually reoccupy Gaza. The operation began with Gaza City, the enclave’s largest urban center and home to about half of its population.

The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has warned that the offensive could displace up to one million more people. The humanitarian situation is already critical, with famine spreading and infrastructure destroyed.

Since October 2023, Israeli operations have killed over 63,000 Palestinians, according to local authorities. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.

As Israeli attacks intensify, the international community continues to call for urgent measures to protect civilians. Humanitarian agencies warn that further escalation could deepen Gaza’s crisis and lead to an even greater humanitarian catastrophe.
