Meghan Markle’s recent remarks about her time in the Royal family have sparked fresh debate, with a royal expert suggesting she never fully understood the expectations of royal life.
Speaking to GB News, royal commentator Jennie Bond said the Duchess of Sussex struggled to grasp what it meant to work as part of the Royal team, where personal freedom is often limited.
The comments come after Meghan appeared on The Circuit podcast. During the conversation, she admitted feeling βinauthenticβ as a royal due to rules and traditions. Meghan Markle’s reflections included an example about being expected to wear pantyhose, which she described as symbolic of her struggle to express herself naturally.
Bond said the example showed Meghan often felt restricted. However, she questioned whether such strict rules really existed. She recalled her own experience at a Buckingham Palace event, where she wore a casual summer dress without tights or a hat, and faced no criticism.
While acknowledging that she is not royalty, Bond suggested protocol is sometimes exaggerated. She added that Meghan Markle’s frustrations highlighted her difficulty in adapting to the team-oriented nature of the Royal family, often referred to as βthe Firm.β
According to Bond, Meghan, who is known for her independence and confidence, may not have been prepared for the compromises required in royal duties. She noted that Meghanβs desire to appear βauthenticβ conflicted with the expectations of her position.
βWhatever that means, I hope she has achieved it,β Bond concluded.
Meghan Markle’s candid remarks continue to attract attention and stir discussion on how her royal journey differed from her expectations. Experts believe her struggles reveal the challenges outsiders face when stepping into one of the worldβs most traditional institutions.
