OIC Rejects Israeli Plan to Occupy Gaza Strip

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has firmly rejected Israeli plans to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, calling for immediate international pressure on Tel Aviv to halt its actions against Palestinians.

In its final statement after an emergency ministerial meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the OIC strongly condemned Israeli efforts to impose military control over Gaza. The group also rejected any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian population, describing such moves as violations of international law and human rights.

The statement held Israel fully responsible for the continuation of the war, citing its refusal to accept ceasefire proposals. According to the OIC, the most recent initiative, accepted by Hamas, could have led to a significant deal involving the release of hostages, a ceasefire, and humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.

The OIC also criticized recent remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the concept of โ€œGreater Israel.โ€ The bloc said such rhetoric reflects extremist ideology, undermines the sovereignty of states, and violates the UN Charter.

In addition, the grouping denounced Israelโ€™s approval of the controversial E1 settlement project, which threatens to divide the occupied West Bank and isolate East Jerusalem. Officials said such steps further weaken the prospects for a two-state solution.

The OIC also condemned Israelโ€™s attacks on journalists and media workers in Gaza, labeling them war crimes and assaults on press freedom. It urged member states and the wider international community to impose sanctions, halt arms shipments, and review diplomatic and trade ties with Israel.

The statement called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its legal duties under Chapter VII to stop Israeli violations.

Since October 2023, more than 62,700 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. The enclave remains on the brink of famine, with international courts investigating Israel for alleged war crimes and genocide.
