Pakistan Advocates for Halting Israeli War Efforts

In a ministerial-level debate at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan urged the UN and the global community to consider “further measures” against Israel to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and halt what it termed as Israel’s “plausible genocide” of the Palestinian people in the besieged enclave.

Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, emphasized the urgent need to halt Israel’s actions in Gaza to prevent further escalation of violence, highlighting the potential spread of conflict to neighboring regions like the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Iran.

He stressed the importance of reviving the peace process for a two-State solution, underlining Palestine’s re-submitted application for UN membership as a significant step towards this goal. Despite disappointment over the UN Security Council’s veto on Algeria’s draft resolution for Palestine’s full UN membership, Ambassador Jadoon reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Palestine’s quest for self-determination and emphasized the commitment to a two-State settlement based on the 1967 borders.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres echoed the call for ending hostilities in Gaza and realizing the two-State solution, emphasizing the need for maximum restraint during this critical period. He highlighted ongoing challenges in aid delivery and stressed the international community’s responsibility to advance efforts for de-escalation in the Middle East region, aiming to reduce risks and increase stability for peace and prosperity.
