Can you Already Guess Some of the 132 Songs Banned in Punjab for Basant

The Punjab government has imposed a ban on 132 Punjabi songs ahead of upcoming Basant celebrations. The decision was announced through an official notification issued in Lahore. Authorities warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators.

According to the notification, the banned songs cannot be played at any public or private gathering. The restriction applies to rooftops, commercial venues, and all Basant-related activities. Officials stated that cases will be registered under relevant laws if the order is violated.

Government sources said the decision was taken to curb the use of songs with objectionable content. These songs reportedly contain suggestive or inappropriate lyrics. Authorities believe such material can disrupt public decency during large gatherings.

Officials added that Basant celebrations often attract large crowds across Punjab. Due to heightened festivities, maintaining law and order becomes challenging. The ban aims to reduce disturbances and ensure a safer environment for all participants.

Basant has remained a sensitive event in Punjab for years. Past celebrations raised safety concerns, especially related to kite flying incidents. As a result, authorities impose strict regulations every year to prevent accidents.

The banned list includes several popular Punjabi songs. Among them are โ€œKundi na kharka Soniya sidha andar aa,โ€ โ€œAaj khulde aang aang mera ve,โ€ and โ€œAisi kudiya shahar diya.โ€ Officials said these songs violate public performance standards.

The action follows the Theatrical Performances Standard Operating Procedures. These SOPs were issued by the Information and Culture Department. The department circulated the guidelines through a letter dated August 13, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has finalized standard operating procedures for Basant celebrations in Lahore. The event is scheduled from February 6 to February 8. Authorities reiterated that public safety remains the top priority.

Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bukhari confirmed the celebrations would proceed under strict regulations. She stated that kite sales would only be allowed through authorised stalls. Cotton thread will be permitted, while unsafe materials will remain banned.

She also announced restrictions on motorcycle movement during the festival. Safety wires will be installed on motorbikes to prevent injuries. Officials said these steps aim to reduce accidents and ensure compliance.
