Trader Disappears as 20kg Gold Worth Rs1b Goes Missing in Lahore’s Ichhra

LAHORE – A major incident has been reported in the Ichhra jewelry market, where more than 20kg gold kept in trust by traders has allegedly disappeared. The case has created panic among shopkeepers, who are now demanding a thorough investigation.

According to police, several jewelers in the busy Ichhra market had handed over their gold to a trader identified as Sheikh Waseem Akhtar. He was responsible for keeping the gold safe in his shop. However, concerns grew when he did not appear at his workplace for several days.

Suspicious about his absence, the traders broke the locks of his shop to check the locker. They claim that when they opened it, more than 20kg gold was missing. The estimated value of the missing gold is nearly one billion rupees, making it one of the biggest reported losses in the area in recent years.

Police officials also stated that the affected traders accused Sheikh Waseem of taking a committee amount worth six million rupees before fleeing. They believe he left the area after collecting the money and removing the gold.

One of the traders, Muhammad Ahmed, has filed a formal complaint at the Ichhra police station. After receiving the application, police began investigating the case from several angles. They are reviewing evidence, checking CCTV footage, and recording statements from shopkeepers to determine how the 20kg gold went missing.

Authorities say that the investigation is in its early stages. They are also trying to trace the suspect and recover the stolen gold. The incident has raised serious questions about trust and security within local jewelry markets, where traders often store large quantities of precious metals with fellow businessmen.
