Punjab Delays Promotions of 241 Eligible Female Officers

Punjab Delays Promotions of 241 Eligible Female Officers

At least 241 eligible female officers in Punjab are reportedly still waiting for promotion from Grade 18 to Grade 19.

The officers belong to the Punjab School Education Department and have reportedly completed the required promotion formalities.

Meanwhile, authorities have promoted 515 male officers from the department. The difference in processing has raised concerns among affected officials and lawmakers in Punjab.

Promotion Issue Reaches Punjab Assembly

The matter has also been raised in the Punjab Assembly. Lawmakers expressed concerns about the prolonged delay in processing promotion cases involving female officials.

The Promotion Selection Board-II recently approved promotions for male officers following repeated demands. However, promotion cases involving Female Officers from the same cadre have reportedly not been finalised.

Previously, the department processed promotion cases for male and female officials together. This approach helped ensure that the same promotion policy was implemented across the relevant cadre.

Officers Say Requirements Have Been Completed

Affected officers say they have already fulfilled the requirements needed for promotion.

These requirements include the required length of service and performance evaluations. They have also completed annual performance reports and necessary departmental clearances.

Despite completing these requirements, many Female Officers are reportedly still awaiting a final decision. Teacher Saba Malak also raised concerns about the delays.

She said several female officials, including school heads, had qualified for promotion years earlier. However, their promotions have still not received final approval.

Officials Explain Reasons for Delay

Officials familiar with the process have cited several administrative reasons behind the delay.

These include verification of seniority lists and disciplinary clearances. Administrative observations have also reportedly contributed to the prolonged processing of promotion cases.

Officials said files must move between different departments before the process can be completed. Approvals from multiple forums have also contributed to delays.

However, the department has not provided a clear explanation for the different timelines involving male and female promotion cases.

241 Female Officers Still Await Decision

The situation has left hundreds of eligible officials waiting for their Grade 19 promotions.

Affected officers are seeking completion of the process after reportedly meeting the required eligibility conditions. The issue has gained further attention following the promotion of 515 male officers.

The pending cases involve 241 Female Officers who are reportedly eligible for advancement to Grade 19. A final timeline for processing and approving their promotion cases has not yet been announced.
