Pakistan is preparing for the arrival of three Petrol tankers expected to reach the country by Monday. Officials say the shipments may help maintain fuel supply as global oil prices continue to rise.
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb shared the update during a meeting with senior government officials in Karachi. The discussion focused on possible economic challenges caused by rising global energy prices.
The meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s House and was attended by Murad Ali Shah and Ali Pervaiz Malik. Officials reviewed emergency measures to manage the country’s energy situation.
According to government representatives, global oil prices have increased due to tensions in the Middle East. Experts warn that crude oil prices could reach $120 per barrel if the situation worsens.
Rising prices have raised concerns about Pakistan’s growing fuel import bill. Officials said the country’s monthly oil import expenses could rise to around $600 million.
During the meeting, the finance minister confirmed that three Petrol tankers are expected to arrive in Pakistan soon. These shipments are expected to support fuel availability and prevent shortages.
Government officials also discussed financial strategies to manage the rising cost of fuel imports. Authorities are preparing alternative plans to reduce the economic impact of higher oil prices.
The petroleum minister said the government may approach the International Monetary Fund for possible relief in the petroleum levy. This step could help reduce pressure on fuel prices.
Officials also agreed to strengthen coordination between the federal government and provincial authorities. The goal is to ensure a stable supply of Petrol and prevent hoarding.
Authorities warned that hoarding or artificial shortages could create unnecessary pressure on the fuel market. Monitoring mechanisms are expected to be strengthened across the country.
The government is also working to secure additional fuel supplies from international partners. Diplomatic contacts with Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates are ongoing.
Officials said these discussions aim to ensure alternative supply routes if disruptions occur in key shipping channels. In particular, efforts are being made to secure Petrol and oil shipments through routes other than the Strait of Hormuz.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of responsible energy use. He said public cooperation is essential during times of economic pressure.
