The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore has announced Class 9 annual examination results.
The overall pass rate stood at 46.51%. This means more than 50% Students who appeared for the exams did not pass.
Lahore Board Chairman Professor Badr-ul-Salam announced the results. Controller of Examinations Tausif-ur-Rehman also attended the announcement.
According to official figures, 287,597 candidates registered for the examination. A total of 280,676 students appeared for the annual exams.
Among those who appeared, 130,543 candidates successfully passed. The remaining candidates were unable to meet the required passing criteria.
The results show that 50% Students failed to clear the Class 9 examination. The figures have highlighted significant differences between several candidate groups.
Female Students Perform Better
Female students achieved a much higher success rate than male candidates. Their overall pass percentage reached 54.62%.
A total of 150,882 female candidates appeared in the examination. Among them, 82,410 students passed.
Meanwhile, 129,794 male candidates appeared for the exams. Only 48,133 male students passed.
The male pass percentage stood at 37.08%. The difference shows a notable performance gap between male and female candidates.
Regular Students Outperform Private Candidates
The results also showed a significant difference between regular and private candidates.
Around 180,264 regular students appeared for the examination. Of these, 96,566 candidates passed.
Regular candidates recorded a pass percentage of 53.57%. Private candidates performed considerably lower in comparison.
A total of 100,412 private candidates appeared for the exams. Only 33,977 of them successfully passed.
Their overall pass rate stood at 33.84%. The figures indicate a wide gap between the two groups.
Private Schools Record Higher Pass Rate
The institutional results also revealed differences between government and private schools.
Around 101,079 regular students from government institutes appeared. A total of 40,409 candidates passed.
Their pass percentage reached 39.98%. Private institutes recorded a significantly stronger performance.
Around 79,185 students from private institutes appeared for the examination. Of these, 56,157 candidates passed.
The private institute pass rate stood at 70.92%. This was considerably higher than the government institute rate.
New Passing Criteria Introduced
The 2026 Class 9 examinations also introduced important changes in evaluation. The minimum passing requirement has increased from 33% to 40%.
Students must now secure at least 220 marks out of 550. Candidates below this threshold will not meet the passing requirement.
The board has also introduced a GPA-based grading system. Result cards will now use the term “Unsatisfactory” instead of “Fail.”
These changes have affected how students are assessed and reported. The new system aims to provide a revised approach to academic evaluation.
The results show that 50% Students were unable to pass the annual examination. The failure rate therefore remained above the halfway mark.
The performance figures also reveal major differences among genders, candidate types and institutions. These results could prompt further discussion about academic performance across Lahore.
The Lahore Board has released the results after completing the annual examination process. Students can now review their individual results through the board’s official channels.
