Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai has expressed willingness to meet PML-N President Nawaz Sharif in Murree.
Achakzai, who is also the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, spoke about the country’s political situation. He stressed the need to strengthen Parliament and uphold the Constitution.
He said elected representatives should have the authority to make important national decisions. According to him, Parliament must remain supreme for political stability in Pakistan.
Achakzai Demands Free and Fair Elections
Achakzai said his party does not accept the results of the February 8, 2024 general elections. He called for free and fair elections in the country.
He also highlighted the federal structure of Pakistan. He said all federating units should receive their constitutional rights.
The opposition leader also demanded greater control over resources for the provinces. He said every federating unit should be treated fairly.
Achakzai further called for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan. He described him as a political prisoner.
He warned that political problems could make it difficult for the federation to function. He linked political stability with resolving the issue surrounding Imran Khan.
Opposition Wants Meeting With Imran Khan
Achakzai had earlier said meaningful talks with the government were not possible without meeting Imran Khan.
He said the government must facilitate a meeting if it genuinely wants political issues resolved. He added that the opposition would communicate Imran Khan’s position during negotiations.
According to Achakzai, talks should continue until major political disputes are addressed.
He also rejected any possible imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the opposition would not accept such a decision.
Achakzai warned that the opposition would resist governor’s rule if it was imposed in the province.
Achakzai Rejects Government
Speaking in Zhob, Achakzai said his party did not recognise the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He also criticised what he described as a distinction between powerful groups and ordinary citizens. He said such divisions had created instability and disorder.
The opposition leader said his party would not accept political pressure or coercion.
Meanwhile, his willingness to meet Nawaz Sharif in Murree could provide another opportunity for political engagement. However, Achakzai continues to stress constitutional supremacy and parliamentary authority.
The development comes as opposition parties continue discussions over political and constitutional issues in the country.
