Alert: NDMA Issues Flash Flood Warning Due To Anticipated Heavy Rains

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for potential monsoon rains, wind, and thunderstorms from July 28 to 31. Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to impact northern Pakistan during this period.

The NDMA has advised all relevant agencies to prepare for possible flooding and extreme weather. This weather system could cause landslides, mudslides, or falling boulders, potentially affecting roads in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K).

Flash flooding may occur in local nullahs, and hill torrents could trigger in the Sulaiman and Kirthar Ranges, as well as in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.

The public is cautioned to stay away from floodwaters and seek safety away from flood-prone areas. Moving water as shallow as six inches can knock a person over, and one foot of water can sweep away vehicles. Bridges may become dangerous during floods and should be avoided if water is flowing quickly.

The NDMA has launched the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ app on Google Play Store and iOS App Store for real-time alerts, advisories, and safety guidelines.
