A controversy at the Hafizabad District Police Office has resulted in the transfer of DPO Kamran Hamid following an inquiry ordered by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to reports, the incident took place during a visit by PML-N lawmaker Shahid Bhatti to the DPO office. The visit was part of an initiative encouraging elected representatives to engage with district police officials and discuss public complaints.
The situation reportedly began when the lawmaker’s son used a washroom located inside the office of DPO Kamran Hamid. Upon returning to his office, the police officer allegedly objected to the use of the facility, leading to a disagreement.
Sources said the discussion centered on whether the washroom was part of a private office space or a public facility accessible to visitors. During the exchange, tensions increased and harsh words were reportedly used.
The matter was later defused after the lawmaker intervened. However, the issue soon gained attention beyond the office premises. Local political workers and social media users began discussing the incident, with some portraying it as disrespectful behavior toward an elected representative.
According to reports, the matter was subsequently raised with senior leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Complaints regarding the conduct of DPO Kamran Hamid were also submitted to Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem.
Following the complaints, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered an inquiry into the matter. The investigation reviewed the events surrounding the incident and examined statements from the individuals involved.
Officials said the inquiry report was later submitted to the provincial government. According to the findings, the explanation provided by DPO Kamran Hamid was not fully accepted by the authorities.
As a result, the government decided to transfer the officer from his position in Hafizabad. He was later assigned to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), which is considered a lower-profile posting compared to district police leadership.
The transfer sparked considerable debate on social media. Some users supported the officer and argued that official office protocols should be respected. Others believed that public offices should remain accessible to visitors accompanying elected representatives.
Posts and comments from political figures and influential individuals also circulated online after the transfer. Some of these remarks were viewed as criticism of the outgoing officer, further fueling public discussion.
