ISLAMABAD โ The Arif Habib Group has expressed strong interest in purchasing the remaining 25 percent stake in Pakistan International Airlines after securing majority ownership.
Chairman Arif Habib confirmed that his consortium plans to acquire full control of the national airline. He said the group initially aimed for 100 percent ownership and still intends to move forward.
Speaking to the media, Arif Habib stated that the consortium now has 90 days to complete the next phase of the process. During this period, discussions will continue with the government.
The Arif Habib Group recently won the bid for 75 percent shares of PIA. The government will receive Rs10 billion from this transaction. The remaining 25 percent stake has been valued at Rs45 billion.
Arif Habib also confirmed that Fauji Fertilizer has officially joined the consortium. He said the partnership strengthens the groupโs financial position and operational plans.
According to him, the airlineโs current liabilities stand at Rs190 billion. Its assets are valued at around Rs180 billion. He admitted the financial challenges but expressed confidence in a turnaround.
The chairman said the consortium plans to expand the airlineโs fleet in phases. In the first phase, aircraft numbers will increase from 38 to 64. Further expansion will follow in the second phase.
He added that improving fleet size and efficiency will help restore PIAโs operational strength. A stronger airline will also support Pakistanโs broader economy.
The Arif Habib Group believes privatisation will encourage investment and build investor confidence. Arif Habib said the successful bidding process sends a positive signal to foreign investors.
He praised the government for conducting the privatisation transparently. He also credited the Privatisation Commission and the federal cabinet for completing the process smoothly.
Arif Habib stressed that reviving PIA is not just a business goal. He said it is also about improving national infrastructure and economic stability.
Following the Rs135 billion bid, optimism has grown around the airlineโs future. The consortium believes strategic management can bring long-term improvement.
