RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army captain was martyred during an intelligence-based operation in Hangu district. Seven terrorists were also killed during the operation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted the operation following reports of terrorist activity. The operation targeted members of the group described by ISPR as Indian Proxy, Fitna Al Khwarij.
During the operation, troops engaged the reported terrorist hideout. The militants reportedly moved into a mosque while attempting to escape the security forces.
ISPR said the terrorists took refuge inside the place of worship. An exchange of fire followed between the security forces and the militants.
Seven terrorists were killed during the intense exchange. The operation also resulted in the martyrdom of Captain Hamza Akram.
The 27-year-old Army captain was leading his troops from the front during the operation. He was pursuing the terrorists when he sustained fatal injuries.
Security forces also recovered weapons and ammunition from the militants killed during the operation. According to ISPR, the terrorists had been involved in several militant activities.
The statement said the group had targeted security personnel and law enforcement agencies. It also linked the militants to attacks that resulted in the deaths of civilians.
Following the operation, security forces launched a sanitization effort in the surrounding area. The purpose is to locate and eliminate any remaining militants.
The Army captain’s death comes during continued counterterrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces have been conducting operations against militant groups in various areas.
ISPR stated that the counterterrorism campaign would continue across the country. The campaign is being conducted under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam.
The initiative was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan. Authorities have emphasized continued efforts against terrorism and militant networks.
The latest operation highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces continue to conduct intelligence-based operations against suspected terrorist activity.
ISPR said the sacrifices of security personnel strengthen the country’s resolve against terrorism. The Army captain’s sacrifice was also described as part of ongoing efforts to protect the country.
