The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has issued an arrest warrant for Ali Amin Gandapur, who is currently nominated for the position of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister. The warrant is related to allegations of violating the code of conduct during the AJK Legislative Assembly elections held in July 2021.
Gandapur, who was a federal cabinet member in the PTI government at that time, held the portfolio of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan minister. He was tasked with running the election campaign in AJK. However, his presence and alleged actions during the campaign led to controversy, prompting the AJK Election Commission to order him to leave the state.

The arrest warrant is connected to a complaint filed over Gandapur’s actions during the elections. The AJK Election Commission has directed the Dera Ismail Khan deputy commissioner to present Gandapur for the hearing on February 28.
This development comes in the context of heightened efforts by the police in Lahore to arrest individuals involved in the violence on May 9. Gandapur is among the nominated persons declared as proclaimed offenders by an anti-terrorism court in connection with the May 9 violence, along with other individuals backed by the PTI who won the Feb 8 elections as independents. Authorities have stated that a comprehensive plan is in place to track down and apprehend these individuals.
