Government Awards Rs206.5 Million to Athletes, Arshad Nadeem Gets Rs152 Million: Report

The Pakistani government has announced that athletes were awarded a total of Rs206.5 million in cash rewards for the fiscal year 2024-25. Olympic javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem received the largest share, taking home Rs152 million, according to official documents presented in parliament.

Arshad Nadeemโ€™s coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, was also rewarded with Rs10.6 million for guiding the athlete to success. These rewards highlight the governmentโ€™s commitment to recognizing exceptional sports achievements in Pakistan.

Other athletes were recognized for their international victories. World Snooker Championship winner Muhammad Asif received Rs2.5 million, while Ahsan Ramzan earned Rs500,000 for his bronze medal at the Asian Under-21 Snooker Championship. Additionally, Muhammad Asif was given a Rs500,000 bonus for winning gold at the SAARC Snooker Championship, and Muhammad Naseem Akhtar received Rs100,000 for his bronze medal in the same event.

Table tennis players who competed in the South Asian Regional Table Tennis Championship collectively received Rs1.45 million. Special Olympics World Winter Games medalists were awarded Rs3.05 million, reflecting recognition for athletes across multiple disciplines.

Squash players also benefited, with national medalists at the Asian Junior Squash Championship sharing Rs1.75 million, while participants at the World Under-23 Individual Squash Championship collectively earned Rs7.5 million.

Taekwondo athletes were awarded Rs11.5 million for their performances at the Asian Open World Taekwondo Championship, underlining Pakistanโ€™s efforts to support sports beyond cricket and hockey.

The government emphasized that rewarding athletes like Arshad Nadeem not only honors individual achievements but also encourages young talent to pursue sports professionally.
