Twist in ASP Shehrbano Naqvi Case as Accuser Faces Backlash

LAHORE – The ongoing dispute involving Lahore eye specialist Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen and ASP Shehrbano Naqvi has intensified after new allegations surfaced. A patient has claimed that a surgical procedure led to permanent vision loss, complicating the already high-profile case.

Asif Akhtar, a relative of the affected patient, alleged that Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen performed a faulty eye operation that caused total blindness. The surgery reportedly cost Rs500,000, including Rs200,000 for a lens implant. Despite repeated complaints, the doctor allegedly continued to demand payments, prompting the family to approach the Punjab Healthcare Commission for legal intervention.

These claims emerge at a time when Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen has accused ASP Shehrbano Naqvi of coercing him into paying millions to another patient. According to the doctor, he was summoned to the police station and allegedly forced to issue cheques worth Rs10 million, despite already having refunded some of the money. He claimed police pressure included the detention of his clinic guard during the summons.

The doctor argued that police, including ASP Shehrbano Naqvi, had no authority to judge the success of a medical procedure without a certified medical report or board decision. He maintained that only qualified medical boards can assess surgical outcomes, emphasizing the lack of legal grounds for the police actions.

In response, ASP Shehrbano Naqvi strongly denied all allegations. She clarified that Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen visited her office once and was merely advised to resolve the dispute with the patient. She asserted no force, harassment, or illegal action was taken against the doctor or his staff.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Observers note that the case highlights the complex intersection of medical accountability and law enforcement procedures. The renewed scrutiny has drawn attention from health regulators, legal experts, and civil rights advocates alike.
