Saudi Arabia opens $90M campus at Azad Kashmir University

The King Abdullah Campus of Azad Jammu and Kashmir University (UAJK) in Pakistan has been officially inaugurated by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD). The project, which received a generous $90 million grant from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through SFD, was inaugurated by Dr. Saud bin Ayed Al-Shammari, the Director General of SFD’s Asia Operations, in the presence of Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, the President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

The state-of-the-art campus features 15 academic departments, administration blocks, accommodation, a library, a mosque, a modern auditorium, and other essential amenities. It is expected to benefit over 10,000 students, faculty members, and employees, providing cutting-edge research and educational opportunities to support Pakistan’s sustainable socio-economic development. The campus also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Sustainable Cities and Local Communities.

AJK President Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry expressed gratitude for the pivotal role played by Saudi Arabia, led by King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, following the 2005 earthquake in the region. The SFD director general highlighted the agency’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s sustainable development through social infrastructure projects, and the strong partnership between SFD and Pakistan over several decades.
The inauguration of the King Abdullah Campus signifies a significant milestone in the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s development and reinforces the deep friendship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. It also demonstrates SFD’s dedication to supporting development projects in Pakistan and other developing countries worldwide.
